A Lot Of Movement While I Sleep

by Liz
(Ohio)

When I go to bed it takes awhile for me to fall asleep. I am all over the bed, cannot find a good way to lay. Then when I go to sleep my fiance says I kick and hit and snore and gasp. I don't ever have a dream or if I do I don't remember it. Never well rested when I get up.

Kevin: Hey Liz, thanks for writing in. While different people do move to varying degrees during the night and excessive movement in itself is not inherently a cause for concern, your fiance's noticing of your snoring and gasping combined with your own lack of refreshment upon awakening is.

Snoring, gasping, and daytime sleepiness commonly point towards cases of sleep apnea. You should definitely not ignore this and get yourself examined for sleep apnea, because it's not something you want to leave untreated. You can learn more about sleep apnea here.

Regarding finding a comfortable way to lay, you may also be interested in reading our page about sleeping positions. Not sure if it has anything that will end up helping you, but I thought it was worth mentioning.

Best wishes!
Kevin

A Note On Visitor-Submitted Questions:

Publishing sleep stories and questions from our visitors is meant to create a forum for open and proactive dialogue about an extremely important portion of our lives (one that occupies 1/3 of it and affects the other 2/3). It is not meant to substitute a trip to the doctor or the advice of a specialist. It's good to talk; it is not good to avoid consulting someone who's profession it is to help you with this kind of stuff.

If you are in any way concerned about your sleep health, don't wait for an answer on here, and don't necessarily rely on them. See a sleep specialist in your area as soon as possible.
