As Early As 7 and 8 Years Old I Stayed Up Later Than Everyone And Could Not Wake Up

by Butch
(Huntsville, Al.)

Getting up for school had been a nightmare for me as early as first grade. I have tried
everything from drugs to sleep deprivation. I survived jobs by being an Elt. Eng and working
mostly my own hours and producing work noon or later. Early school I survived by being bright
and able to learn in a much shorter time than most and therefore needed much less class
time. (At least in math and science.) Nowadays my parents would have been put in jail.

Currently my wife hates this about me. I try to go to sleep with her but just toss and turn keeping her awake and just give up so she can sleep. There is one odd thing I have noticed. Many times while trying to sleep a little early I will get a strong craving for food as I finally start to doze.

A Note On Visitor-Submitted Questions:

Publishing sleep stories and questions from our visitors is meant to create a forum for open and proactive dialogue about an extremely important portion of our lives (one that occupies 1/3 of it and affects the other 2/3). It is not meant to substitute a trip to the doctor or the advice of a specialist. It's good to talk; it is not good to avoid consulting someone who's profession it is to help you with this kind of stuff.

If you are in any way concerned about your sleep health, don't wait for an answer on here, and don't necessarily rely on them. See a sleep specialist in your area as soon as possible.
