How To Wake Up When Sleep Paralysis Happens!

I am 40 years old and have had sleep paralysis my whole life. I can offer unique insight into this as I have learned how to wake up through a few different methods listed below:


1) I am married and have learned over the years to call out to my wife to wake me up. It feels like i am screaming at the top of my lungs but she says its a faint calling of her name. She usually hears me say: Help and moaning wake me please Help!

2) Sleeping on my back is the worst. I get paralysis almost every time I sleep on my back. Sleep on your side and it very rarely happens to me.

3) When I take a sleeping aid I have never had it happen to me.

4) The best way is to stay calm count to 3 in your head and right when you hit 3 try and kick your legs. It feels like i could kick a hole through the wall but what really happens is a slight twitch but its enough to wake me up.

5) I ran out of sleeping pills and had this happen twice last night and without my wife I don't know if I would ever sleep again so talk with your partner and make them aware of this and tell them no matter what they have to wake you up if they hear anything or feel you struggling. My wife knows that sometimes she has to even shove me off the bed or slap me and sometimes she hears me yell please hit me wake me up. I would rather have her punch me than go through it for 1 second more to wake me up. I really hate sleeping now especially when I forget to get a prescription.
