I See Faces Looking At Me While Awaking From Sleep

by Pauline Clayton
(Lancashire, England)

Sometimes when I awake I see faces looking down on me. One old lady was sitting in a chair at the side of my bed. I am not frighted anymore as i soon realise it's an awaking dream.

Kevin: Hey Pauline, thanks for sharing this. You're right, sounds like dream imagery upon awakening, or hypnopompic imagery as it is sometimes called. You can learn more about it here if you like.

Warmly,
Kevin

A face on a face NEW
by: Anonymous

I saw a face on top of a dying body-there were two different faces. It was as though something was trying to escape the dying body. The face was not the patients'. Has anyone else had this experience before? I dozed for a minute-and woke up-to see the face. Freaked me out. As I saw another face on top of the patient's face. On waking-it took a minute to get my focus to see the dying man again.

Faces, People
by: PC

Mine started with me seeing someone standing at my bed, once a ladies head with dark curly hair came laughing toward me. I also saw a tall slender woman at the foot of my bed with her arms crossed and holding a cigarette. Last night I awoke to a man walking toward me, he had on a beach looking shirt and was short, I moved back in the bed as I loudly gasped and he went away!
I wish I knew how to make this end! I only take 3 prescriptions that I've taken for years.

Man staring in my face when I woke
by: Nina Campbell

I'm writing on my mothers behalf. Today is All Saints Day and last night All Hallows Eve. My mom fell asleep in her chair around 11:00pm. My daughter was in the other part of the house and had just been reading some information on how my moms father died. (My grand father, my daughters great Grandfather)
My mom came into the kitchen crying and told me when she suddenly woke there was a man staring at her just inches from her face. She knows he was wearing a smoking jacket and had a cigarette holder. It startled her.
After putting two and two together we came to the conclusion it was her father whom she never met and he died when I was born. She is at ease now . Peace to all of you .

I see people/faces at night when I wake up NEW
by: ellen

It happens several times a month. Either I am woken up by my Dog that sleeps with me making a position change or I have get up to go to the bathroom. I will see a full body of someone or just the shoulders and head walking toward me. When I reach out they disintegrate into confetti or just disappear. The images are very vivid and it is always someone different, never anyone i have known. Last night the image was coming at me so quickly I started kicking my leg at it and ended up kicking he dog at the end of the bed. One time an old woman reached out to me with her hand but I could not feel it. Sometimes I am frightened by other times I am not. Is this just a have awake image in my mind or am I really seeing spirits?

Various Faces Various Locations in the Room
by: Anonymous

I've had horrible dreams since I was a kid. Now they are getting really bad, and I have at least two a week. I see Faces or person and/or people in the bedroom, and I SCREAM out so LOUD, and my heart feels like it is coming out of my chest. I've actually gotten up to look for what I thought was actually a person in the room It is freaking my husband out. Once my husband says my name, I somewhat come to and wake up or apologize and await my heart to quit pounding and go back to sleep. Why is this happening and more and more frequently.

Seeing People NEW
by: Anonymous

Since the 1990's I would wake up and see people standing around my bed. Sometimes talking to each other. I was in NJ and the people looked like people looked up North. Since I moved to MS, It has happened twice. I have not been scared. The first time I saw a BIG black man sitting on the edge of my bed with his hands covering his face (he looked depressed). The second time I was covering my eyes with a pillow and a well-dressed older lady was leaning over trying to see my face. She then turned her face to the side (towards the wall) as if she were speaking to someone outside of the house.I plead the blood of Jesus and command them to leave, and all spirits leave. "We fight not against flesh and blood but against principalities" Epesians 6:12

Face to Face NEW
by: Anonymous

I am 67 and this is the first time this has happened to me. I awoke and there was a man, olive to dark skin, moustache and thick curly hair. As I awoke he had both hands on the pillow I was sleeping on.
My waking up seemed to startle him. I recoiled and yelled "What the Fuck" as the image just vanished. I sat there totally awake and confused by what I had just seen. It was not a ghostly vision but a clear vision of a person who was startled by me waking up. Not a dream as it happened just after I was awoken suddenly.

Grinning man
by: Carolyn Paetow

I am now 76 years old and have no cognitive issues. About two years ago, I awoke to see a clown-like man leaning over me, maniacally grinning into my face. The image was so real that I raised my arm to push him away, but he instantly disappeared. I was wide awake with my eyes wide open when this happened, and I had not been dreaming of anything that could conceivably be connected to the man. Since, I have had two more instances of awakening to see strange things that lasted only a couple of seconds, but they were only objects, not beings. In none of these instances was there any movement of the images.

In my face NEW
by: Anonymous

I’ve had half a dozen experiences in the last few months of waking up abruptly because out of nowhere in my peaceful sleep, an ugly face has appeared. It’s been a different face each time and appeared right in my face, inches away. Last time I opened my eyes wide and found myself suddenly fully awake. I had heard myself shout "shit!"asit loomed down on me. I wasn’t frightened at all, just shocked. I’m wondering if this is because I have had a number of serious health problems over the last year and the most serious are still to be resolved. Maybe it’s my subconscious telling me to about face these things rather than always appearing like nothing is wrong.

Inches from my face NEW
by: Anonymous

I’ve had half a dozen experiences in the last few months of waking up abruptly because out of nowhere in my peaceful sleep, an ugly or contorted face has appeared. It’s been a different face each time and it’s appeared right in my face, only inches away. Each time I opened my eyes wide and found myself suddenly fully awake. This last time I had heard myself shout "shit!" as the face loomed down on me then disappeared. I wasn’t frightened at all, just shocked. I’m wondering if this is because I have had a number of serious health problems over the last year and the most serious are still to be resolved. Maybe it’s my subconscious telling me I need to confront these things.

I have a theory NEW
by: Anonymous

i am 23 years old and i have been experiencing this phenomenon since i was a toddler. I would wake up in the middle of the night and find myself face to face with someone else. It happens often, whether they're in my face or they're standing around me. Its not uncommon. You are not crazy, I've always believed that spirits existed all around us, when its dark in the sky they walk the earth. I've seen people look so real, i could see their chest hair, facial texture, clothing etc. I have gotten used to it over the years. I don't get startled anymore. There's a scientific explanation that I don't agree with. I have had an experience to detest it. Once i woke up at 4am. i looked to my left. i saw a man standing on the edge of the bed by my ex boyfriend. I blinked, I sat up. He didn't disappear. We both just looked at each other for a solid minute. I saw his chest hair, his scraggly beard, his long johns he wore, his beer belly and his tired eyes. i decided to just turn around and go back to sleep because i was used to it, but i had to work in three hours so i knew i needed the sleep.Sometimes i look back at that moment and regret not talking to him or smiling. He probably could've used a friend. a spirit walking the earth is a lonely tortured soul.
