I Worry About My Brother & His Chronic Sleep Talking Episodes. Someone Care To Explain?

by IJQ
(Miami, FL. United States)

My brother is 23, we share rooms. I usually come home late and he's already sleeping. During the time I take to sleep, I almost always catch him sleep talking.

At this point I'm used to it, but sometimes I can't help to wonder what's really wrong with him, or if he has some kind of disorder aside from sleep talking which causes him to do so.

He's socially awkward, but really dedicated & good when it comes to one thing & one thing only. He sleep talks literally every single night & some nights he wakes up doing the most bizarre things, shouting gibberish.

There's been times where he's gotten up so fast & startled me, other times where he jumps up on the edge of his bed with perfect balance trying to get away from something.

I feel bad, like I really don't know how to help him & he doesn't seem the type to look for help. I wanna find a reason to why he's like that & maybe try & convince him to get help or anything related to it. If anything knows anything about this feel free to comment.

A Note On Visitor-Submitted Questions:

Publishing sleep stories and questions from our visitors is meant to create a forum for open and proactive dialogue about an extremely important portion of our lives (one that occupies 1/3 of it and affects the other 2/3) that isn't talked about enough. It is not meant to substitute a trip to the doctor or the advice of a specialist. It's good to talk; it is not good to avoid consulting someone who's profession it is to help you with this kind of stuff.

If you are in any way concerned about your sleep health, don't wait for an answer on here, and don't necessarily rely on them. See a sleep specialist in your area as soon as possible.
