Interupted Sleep Is Killing Me

by Kimberly Ann
(Sacramento, CA)

I am 44 years old and at least 3-4 nights a week I am woken by my partner who insists on having a full conversation (anywhere from 10 minutes to 3 hours) that is usually argumentative with her calling me names and saying very mean things.

I swear she is fully awake but in the morning she claims not to remember anything except a feeling that we may have had a fight. She says she’s sorry and doesn’t feel the way she expressed so she doesn’t know why she says those things.

My bigger issue is that I am exhausted and can not continue to not get uninterrupted sleep. I feel like I am going to lose it and her only response is “its not my fault”. Please help.

Incarnation of dream
by: Hawkmoon

Look at it this way: we use dreams to deal with emotional problems that we happen upon during day time. So for inst. if we have an issue with the boss, we might deal with that during sleep. And because figure of boss may be too intimidating, during dreams we will incarnate boss in someone more familiar so we can express our issue without fear.
In essence, you became your partner dream incarnate, so she uses you to deal with issues while dreaming. I believe she is completely honest when she says she can't remember, it just seems that her mind has exchanged dream conversation with actually conversation with you. You have two solutions to problem: either you can focus into that discussion to see what is actually bothering your partner, and then solve it during awake time, or you can move away for couple of nights from her so she may switch back to solving issues with actual dream conversations.

Well if she can't remember anything, then why even pick the call? :)

A Note On Visitor-Submitted Questions:

Publishing sleep stories and questions from our visitors is meant to create a forum for open and proactive dialogue about an extremely important portion of our lives (one that occupies 1/3 of it and affects the other 2/3). It is not meant to substitute a trip to the doctor or the advice of a specialist. It's good to talk; it is not good to avoid consulting someone who's profession it is to help you with this kind of stuff.

If you are in any way concerned about your sleep health, don't wait for an answer on here, and don't necessarily rely on them. See a sleep specialist in your area as soon as possible.
