My Son's Sleep Problems, With ADHD

by Corinne
(Canada)

My son who is now 9 has always had a hard time getting to sleep, since he could walk we would find him sleeping in several different places every night. The doctor prescribed melatonin, which helps him get to sleep, but he still sleepwalks every night. He gets up and turns on all the lights several times a night. He has ADHD and takes medication for it but i think if he could get a good night's sleep his symptoms would lessen or disappear. Also when I was
I was expecting him, he never slept he always moved around a lot. No, didnt do drugs, alcohol, or smoke. However my husband does smoke in the home. Are there any suggestions?

Hi Corrine, you say your son has ADHD,although I do not have a solution for you i would like to share with you my problem..you are not alone!
My 7 year old son does not sleep alone and never has,he wakes up minimum 3 times in the night, comes and wakes me up to tell me he can`t sleep, when I put him back in his bed he goes back to sleep, only to wake again in a couple of hours and do this same, this has been going on for the most of his little 7 years life and i am at my whitst end now,if you find a solution please do share it! Thank-you,Dawn :)

A Note On Visitor-Submitted Questions:

Publishing sleep stories and questions from our visitors is meant to create a forum for open and proactive dialogue about an extremely important portion of our lives (one that occupies 1/3 of it and affects the other 2/3). It is not meant to substitute a trip to the doctor or the advice of a specialist. It's good to talk; it is not good to avoid consulting someone who's profession it is to help you with this kind of stuff.

If you are in any way concerned about your sleep health, don't wait for an answer on here, and don't necessarily rely on them. See a sleep specialist in your area as soon as possible.
