My son has had sleep apnea since 3 months old. He has had five surgeries on adenoids that keep growing back. The most recent ENT we saw a few months ago says that his sleep apnea has nothing to do with his regrowing adenoids and all to do with his enlarged tongue.
The ENT also stated that as we are narrowing our choices for treatments, if the current c-pap treatment doesn't work, we need to look at a trachostomy (doctor's first choice) or tongue surgery. The doctor also stated that our son's behavior problems may have nothing to do with his sleep deprivation and that we should get a psych eval on him. We did this in the past and the psychologist stated it was our son's sleep deprivation causing the severe moodiness and behavior problems.
I'm nervous that the c-pap is not working. School starts in a couple of weeks and our son (1st grade) hates school and gets in trouble a lot (has 1:1 para with him all day). I am overwhelmed and losing hope on answers. Do you have any recommendations on any of the information I have supplied here?
Thanks for your help. Should we get a second opinion from the ENT report I gave you here?

Publishing sleep stories and questions from our visitors is meant to create a forum for open and proactive dialogue about an extremely important portion of our lives (one that occupies 1/3 of it and affects the other 2/3). It is not meant to substitute a trip to the doctor or the advice of a specialist. It's good to talk; it is not good to avoid consulting someone who's profession it is to help you with this kind of stuff.
If you are in any way concerned about your sleep health, don't wait for an answer on here, and don't necessarily rely on them. See a sleep specialist in your area as soon as possible.
