Sleep and Menopause - How Long Until My Old Sleep Patterns Return?

I have not had a period for 12 months and have been having a lot of trouble either getting to sleep and now, if I can get to sleep, waking up frequently. How long until my old sleep patterns return?

Chaotic Sleep

I'm 55, Menopausal and suffer from chronic insomnia too. My sleep patterns are chaotic. Awake all during the day. Sleeping in the day sometimes/often. Often 1, 2, 3, sleepless nights in a row.Really makes me feel rotten. Increases sick headaches, loss of appetitite.

I have also had ME 16 years. This chronic insomnia has made my ME worse.

The insomnia started some 5 years when I was coming to the end of menstruating plus hot flushes started. Insomnia increasing very gradually over months and years. No coincidence I think that as menopause began (periods TOTALLY stopped) my insomnia and sleeping patterns got really chaotic.

This chronic insomnia has made my ME worse. Also have been getting BOILING HOT at night. You could fry an egg on my back! A fan is on, on and off during the night. Yet, my feet are cold! Hot water bottle for the feet and fan on for hot back and face and chest. Of course, I don't sleep.

Now trying Red Clover which has been recommended for the menopause. Hot flushes in particular,but I'm hoping it will help with my chaotic sleep pattern.

My doctor won't medicate for this condition. He says sleep is a personal management issue.

I cannot consider go on HRT because I have high blood pressure.

Tried Homeopathy, which did help at first, but then I got a bad cough, and couldn't sleep for coughing, so my sleep was disrupted again. Had lots of infections (dental) over the years, which disrupts sleep because of pain. Also, get bodily pain in my muscles from the ME which disrupts/prevents sleep.

Perhaps if we can find some effective remedies for the menopause it will help regulate sleep.

I have decided to systamatically try each menopausal 'remedy' in turn and see if I can find one that helps in the hope that it will help my menopausal chaotic sleep.

Sleep disruption

I'm menopausal too. Have times of waking up EXACTLY every 2 hours too. Also, other nights of waking up frequently during the night. It's as if my body clock has gone haywire.

If I sleep in the day because I haven't slept at night, I also wake up often EXACTLY after 2 hours.

I find it interesting and puzzling why we should wake every 2 hours. There is even a website called 'Waking up every 2 hours!'so it is obviously a common problem

Menopausal as well. 6 hours usually but i dont feel rested. 10 hours is better. Frequently wake up and cannot get back to sleep. Seem to sabotage my chances for a good nights sleep by getting busy.HELP
