Upset & Almost Depressed Since My Sleep Pattern Became 3:30 am - 1:00pm

My sleep pattern has been like this for a little while now, ever since my life has changed in a drastic way. I dont know if that has anything to do with it but i have been feeling very upset, and almost depressed lately and not getting enough sleep is making it worse. i feel so lazy all day and by the time i wake up i feel like the day is over. i used to wake up at 8 in the morning but now that time is like the middle of the night. Ive tried taking sleeping medicine but it was a short term treatment, and it made me feel groggy for most of the day.

Fighting it = Depression NEW

After dealing with severe delayed sleep phase syndrome for over six years, I've finally understood that fighting it will make you more frustrated and depressed because you're trying to adapt to a schedule that your body is not able to do. Also, in the process of trying to stay awake when your body wants to sleep, it completely messes up our system's chemical balance. This creates mood disturbances including depression (they've also linked women who work at night that don't have this disorder to breast cancer so clearly, hormonal balance gets messed up, and it's therefore, probably healthier to let our body sleep when it wants to).

Society has a difficult time understanding those of us with this disorder. They think that we should just be able to get up at 6 or 7 AM like them, not understanding that for us it's like if they set the alarm for 3 AM every day (let them try that and see how they feel!). Their demands plus our desire to be social and able to do things with the rest of the world creates depression and frustration in us.

It's not going to be easy, but if letting your body sleep when it wants to reduces fatigue and depression, then it's probably worth it. :-) Good luck!
