Why Does He Dream Only When I Sleep At His House?

Why does my boyfriend only dream when I sleep at his house?

Kevin: A great question, thanks for asking. A more precise way of phrasing it though is, "Why does my boyfriend only remember his dreams when I sleep at his house." We all dream every night, but there is a very wide range in the way we experience dream recall. Some people remember their dreams very vividly just about every morning, while others, like myself actually, may feel like they remember a dream when they wake up only once every few months.

So what factors could make your boyfriend have better dream recall when you are together? One thing I can attest to is that when I sleep in the same bed as someone else I am more likely to wake up a few more times over the course of the night. If this is the case for your boyfriend, then he is more likely to wake up during a period of REM sleep, the period of the night when dreaming occurs. And when one wakes up during REM sleep one is much more likely to recall the dream that was going on in that REM cycle.

Another possible factor that could be influencing his dream recall is how tired he is when he goes to bed. If he tends to stay up later when you both are together, this could also contribute to his dream experience.

These are a couple of possible contributing factors for you. Can anyone think of any others? Let us know by using the "Post Comments" link below.

Warmly,
Kevin

A Note On Visitor-Submitted Questions:

Publishing sleep stories and questions from our visitors is meant to create a forum for open and proactive dialogue about an extremely important portion of our lives (one that occupies 1/3 of it and affects the other 2/3). It is not meant to substitute a trip to the doctor or the advice of a specialist. It's good to talk; it is not good to avoid consulting someone who's profession it is to help you with this kind of stuff.

If you are in any way concerned about your sleep health, don't wait for an answer on here, and don't necessarily rely on them. See a sleep specialist in your area as soon as possible.
