Wiggle your toes...

I get sleep paralysis pretty often and have stopped being freaked out by it. When I realize what's happening I just slowly start trying to wiggle my toes and fingers and when they start wiggling I move onto bigger movements. It helps to feel in control of what's happening!

You're definitely right Jen--perspective and empowerment are key to staying cool, calm, and collected during sleep paralysis episodes. I salute you for your ability to not get freaked out anymore! May we all just revel in the science of it instead :)

I Do The Same. I Never Really Knew About What Was Happening I Just Thought I Was Dreaming And I Was Just To Lazy To Wake Up. I Hade No Idea That This Is What Someone Else Does To! So Glad To Hear Im Not The Only One.

Movement to Realization

This morning (May 30th 2011) i actually tried to lift my arm and slam it against the mattress but was unsuccessful i just remember being able to inch my left shoulder up but then realized that it was just SP and told myself to stay calm and just fall back asleep, which i did briefly then woke up normally to my alarm clock.

I've noticed that several times in my experiences, the ability to move my tongue or my fingers, I get sleep paralysis often when sleeping in a car and will use my tongue to make a clacking noise to get the attention of whoever I'm with, but something I've noticed is that I am often not moving at all. Occasionally when in SP I believe I am moving my hand or perhaps even my whole arm but then when I look at it I realize that these movements are all my imagination, I can feel my hand moving against the sheet of my bed, and it feels so real but then after looking at it, it hasn't moved an inch.
