Wind-Like Paralysis - What Happened To Me!?

by Kaitlin Taylor
(Australia)

My name is Kaitlin, I am 15 years old and I am from Australia. Last night I woke up at almost 1:00am. I turned on my light, sat up and checked the time on my phone and to see if I had any messages and then decided to lay back down and go back to sleep, but with the light on though. I was thinking about moving house and then suddenly this wind-like thing came from the direction of my feet and took control of me. I couldn't move. I could hear this "wind" it came in waves of about every 1/2 second. I can't remember how long it lasted for but I was terrified! I tried to keep my eyes open but it was so hard, like there was magnets trying to pull them together. I also couldn't breathe. When I could finally open my eyes it all stopped, as suddenly as it had started. But I was so scared, I couldn't get to sleep for hours. I hope this doesn't happen again, it is so terrifying!

A Note On Visitor-Submitted Questions:

Publishing sleep stories and questions from our visitors is meant to create a forum for open and proactive dialogue about an extremely important portion of our lives (one that occupies 1/3 of it and affects the other 2/3). It is not meant to substitute a trip to the doctor or the advice of a specialist. It's good to talk; it is not good to avoid consulting someone who's profession it is to help you with this kind of stuff.

If you are in any way concerned about your sleep health, don't wait for an answer on here, and don't necessarily rely on them. See a sleep specialist in your area as soon as possible.
